Residence through financial independence (known as FIP) is intended for non-EU citizens who have a stable annual income to cover living expenses during their stay. The allowed duration of stay is 2 years and it can be renewed every 2 years. This permit does not grant access to the job market. According to recent announcements, applicants through the FIP program can apply for permanent residency. The monthly income must be at least €2,000. If the applicant is accompanied by a family member, the required income increases by 20% for the spouse and by 15% for each child. The applicant must demonstrate their income through foreign bank statements, pension payments from a foreign country, or legal financial assets, showing their ability to cover living expenses without working in Greece for a 2-year period. The stipulated amount for 2 years or 24 months must be deposited into their bank account in Greece.
